MM2 Rarity Tiers Explained

Every Murder Mystery 2 rarity tier in order, what Chroma and Vintage actually are, and why Ancient beats Godly.

Murder Mystery 2 ranks weapons Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Godly, Ancient and Unique, with Vintage sitting outside the ladder entirely. Ancient is one tier above Godly and the wiki calls Ancients "the least abundant weapons" in the game — while Chroma is not a tier at all, but a colour-cycling label inside the Godly tier.

The ladder, top to bottom

The wiki's Value page is the authority here — it notes that tiers are also called "value" or "rarity", and that a weapon has essentially never been promoted between them.

The two things everyone gets wrong

1. Ancient is above Godly, not below it. The Ancient tier was added in late 2016, sits "a tier below the Unique tier and a tier above the Godly tier", and is where holiday-event weapons land. The wiki also notes a design pattern: Ancients "do not resemble actual knives or guns but resemble axes, scythes, hammers, crossbows, or snipers instead".

2. Chroma is not a rarity. It is a colour-cycling version of a Godly, and it stays in the Godly tier. There are 35 Chroma weapons. The wiki's Value page lists "Chroma" as an other name for Godly, which is exactly the confusion this page exists to fix.

That second point has a real trading consequence. A Chroma Constellation and an ordinary Constellation are the same tier on paper, and yet our own solve prices them nothing like each other — because a Chroma's scarcity comes from its unbox odds, not from its label.

What each tier is actually worth in a trade

Tier is a poor predictor of value on its own, and our own numbers show it. These are from the mm2index.com solver — a barter solve over our observed trade corpus cross-checked against corroborated trader quotes, generated 24 August 2026. The unit is the site's own index.

Harvester is an Ancient and solves at 279. Gingerscope is a Godly and solves at 14,650. That is a factor of fifty in the wrong direction, and it is the clearest possible demonstration that MM2's tiers describe how a weapon was distributed, not what it is worth.

Corrupt is the only tradeable Unique — the wiki's Value page says so explicitly, and the reason is a piece of the game's history: it was given by Nikilis to victims of the 2014 Data Loss Glitch. It solves at 460.

Seer at 8.8 is the floor of the Godly tier, because it is craftable: 20 legendary shards, which means salvaging at least ten Legendary weapons. Anything a player can manufacture cannot hold a scarcity price.

Which tiers can actually change hands

Trading is restricted to level 10 and above, a rule added on 28 December 2021 as an anti-duping measure. You can trade weapons, pets and miscellaneous objects; effects, emotes and radios are untradeable. Four unique items per trade, and a six-second wait after each item is added before either side can accept.

Uniques are untradeable except Corrupt. Everything else on the ladder moves.
