Neon vs Mega Neon in Adopt Me

How to make a Neon and a Mega Neon in Adopt Me, the six age stages of each, and why a Mega costs sixteen pets.

A Neon is made by fusing four Full Grown pets of the same species in the Neon Cave; a Mega Neon is made by fusing four Luminous Neons — which is sixteen of the base pet in total. A Neon glows in fixed spots, a Mega Neon cycles through the colours of the rainbow, and there is no tier above Mega.

Making a Neon

From the wiki's Neon Pets page: you fuse "the spirits of four Full Grown pets of the same species onto the four glowing circles around the edge of the Neon Cave platform. This will cause them to coalesce and become one pet, which will glow in certain spots of its body. The color of the glow is unique to each pet."

Getting there means aging four pets through Newborn → Junior → Pre-Teen → Teen → Post-Teen → Full Grown by completing tasks, and the higher a pet's rarity, the more tasks each stage takes. Shortcuts: trade for pets that are already grown, or feed an Age-Up Potion, which grants 30 tasks at once.

Making a Mega Neon

Same platform, different inputs: four Luminous Neons of the same species. Luminous is the Neon equivalent of Full Grown, and the Neon ladder uses its own names — Reborn, Twinkle, Sparkle, Flare, Sunshine, Luminous — while costing exactly the same number of tasks per stage as an ordinary pet.

So a Mega Neon is four Neons, each of which was four pets, each of which had to be aged twice over. Sixteen base pets and twenty full age-ups.

The visual difference is the payoff: a Mega glows in the same places as the Neon but cycles the rainbow. Some pets are exceptions — the wiki names the Evil Unicorn as one that cycles only its own colours rather than every colour — and Mega Neon colours can be altered with Mega Neon Pet Paints at the Salon.

Do Fly and Ride survive?

Yes, and only one input needs them. The wiki's rule, stated identically on both pages: "If one of the combined pets have a Fly and/or Ride ability, the Neon/Mega version will inherit those abilities as well."

This is why the trading shorthand exists. An NFR is a Neon that inherited Fly and Ride; an MFR is the Mega version. A Mega made from four plain Neons is an "M", not an "MFR", and the two are not the same item in a trade.

Fly and Ride themselves come from potions: the Ride-A-Pet Potion at 130 Robux and the Fly-A-Pet Potion at 255 Robux, both permanent once fed.

After Luminous

Two useful facts from the wiki:

Pets that cannot do it

No Neon: Pet Rock (not the Rock), Scoob, Pumpkin, Burtaur, MFR Sandwich. No Mega Neon: Pet Rock, Scoob, Pumpkin, Burtaur.

Two oddities: the MFR Sandwich and the Sandwich arrived Mega Neon by default, and the Frost Dragon and Shadow Dragon used to cycle only white and blue as Megas until the Monkey Fairground update gave them the full rainbow.

Which is worth making

It depends entirely on whether you have sixteen of the pet.

Make a Neon if you have four and the species is one you will keep. Four pets and four age-ups is a weekend, not a project.

Buy or trade for a Mega rather than making one, unless the base pet is genuinely easy to get. Sixteen Full Grown pets of one species is the real cost, and it is why the Mega tier commands the prices it does — our own MFR and NFR listings sit several times above the plain pet on the same species.

A note on the Neon icon: the wiki records that during the trading update the Mega Neon icon shown in a player's inventory was changed specifically to prevent scams. Check the icon, not the seller's word.
