Blox Fruits Mutations Explained
The three Blox Fruits mutations, which fruit each one alters, what they cost in Robux and why they reset your mastery.
Blox Fruits has three mutations — Werewolf (Tiger), Empyrean (Kitsune) and Fiend (Yeti) — added in Update 28. Unlike skins they change abilities, not just looks, and the wiki is blunt that none of the three is obtainable any more without spending Robux.
Updated 8 September 2026.
Mutation, skin, fruit — three different things
The wiki's definition: mutations "are alternate versions of existing Blox Fruits, which change the user's look, and unlike Skins, modify their abilities".
That is the line that matters. A skin repaints a fruit. A mutation gives it a different moveset. The wiki goes further and says outright that "it is a lot more clearer to address mutations as separate fruits itself, as they not only have unique obtainment methods, they share no Mastery with the original variants."
Mutations do not share mastery. Switch to one and you start the mastery grind over on that moveset. That is the single most important practical fact on this page and the one most often left out.
The three mutations
| Mutation | Base fruit | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Werewolf | Tiger | Hunter Bundle, or the Halloween Gacha Dealer in the 2025 Halloween Event — or 1,500 Robux on its own if you already own permanent Tiger |
| Empyrean | Kitsune | Fox Spirit Bundle — or 2,000 Robux on its own if you already own permanent Kitsune. Also from the Galaxy Empyrean skin rolled in the Winter 2025 Fruit Box at a 0.8% chance |
| Fiend | Yeti | Raging Frost Bundle, or the Valentines Gacha Dealer in the 2026 Valentines Event — or 1,500 Robux on its own if you already own permanent Yeti |
The wiki appends the same sentence to all three: "No longer obtainable without spending Robux."
The standalone price is conditional on owning the permanent base fruit. That is the mechanic worth understanding before you buy anything: 1,500 Robux buys Werewolf only if you already hold Permanent Tiger. Without the base fruit, the route is the event bundle.
Owning versus equipping
Two separate things, and the wiki separates them carefully.
Buying a mutation can be done "any time they please, granted they have the permanent version of its base version. Only the physicals are event limited." So the Robux route stays open outside the events; only the physical fruit drops are event-gated.
Equipping one is done from the Wardrobe section of your Inventory while the base fruit is equipped, or from the permanent Blox Fruits Shop by selecting "Mutations" under that fruit's description.
Physical mutated fruits behave oddly. Eat one and you are granted only the mutation — you cannot switch back to the base version. That changes once you either switch to the original fruit or own its permanent version, after which you can move freely between them. The wiki records one exception: during the early hours of the 2025 Halloween Event, eating a physical Werewolf granted both it and Tiger. That was changed quickly, and the players who had already eaten one kept the ability.
Mutation skins exist too
Empyrean is currently the only mutation with a skin of its own: Galaxy Empyrean, which the wiki describes as "the exact same as Empyrean, only having a different color palette (much like any other skin)". It was rolled from the Winter 2025 Fruit Box at 0.8%.
The wiki's note on it is worth quoting because it explains why you will see it in trade posts and nowhere else: Empyrean "is completely unobtainable in its regular physical form by free methods… Only the Galaxy skin could be used to obtain it. Which, while it technically grants the user base Empyrean as well, it was exceptionally rare, and absurdly limited, making it by far the single hardest thing to obtain by legitimate means."
Update 30 added a second mutation skin. The Magnet Gacha's Chromatic Box, since retired from the shop, included Runic Fiend at a published 1%, which the update page compares directly to Galaxy Empyrean — a skin of a mutation, not a new mutation.
What this means if you are buying
The chain runs base fruit → mutation → mutation skin, and each step has a different market:
- The permanent base fruit is the only step with a fixed, always-available price. Tiger and Yeti are 3,000 Robux each on the wiki's table; Kitsune is 4,000.
- The mutation on top is 1,500 or 2,000 Robux, and only if you hold the base. No permanent, no standalone purchase.
- The skin on top of that is a gacha roll — 0.8% for Galaxy Empyrean, 1% for Runic Fiend.
Anyone selling you "a Werewolf" without reference to Tiger is describing something the game does not let them hand over cleanly. The permanent base fruit is what actually moves between accounts.
Where to buy
The three base fruits every mutation is built on:
- Permanent Tiger — the Werewolf base, $21.00 against 3,000 Robux
- Permanent Kitsune — the Empyrean base, $28.00 against 4,000 Robux
- Permanent Yeti — the Fiend base, $21.00 against 3,000 Robux
For a mutation or mutation skin without the gacha, when we hold one: Runic Fiend and Werewolf.
